Akron girl honored for rescue at pool party.

Oct. 10--Cheryl Gerlak is still a bit woozy from the blow to the back of her head she suffered while swimming in a backyard pool Monday. But even through the mental fog, the 26-year-old mother knows whom to thank for being alive.

"She is my lifesaver. I would give this girl the world if I could," Gerlak said of her 13-year-old next-door neighbor, Elizabeth Amendolar.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. as Gerlak and a number of friends were trying to beat the heat at an impromptu pool party at her mother's Annapolis Avenue home.
