Oct. 10--Arizona lawmakers and citizens who are clamoring for tough immigration controls should take a moment and look at what is happening in places where leaders have failed to take a balanced approach in addressing illegal immigration.
What they will see is that when politicians take the enforcement-only approach, human disasters result, and sometimes the cure can be worse than the remedy.
France, for example, is rushing to deport 25,000 illegal immigrants by the end of the year in order to meet a campaign commitment made by new President Nicolas Sarkozy, The Associated Press reported last month.
