Oct. 10--Negotiations between Chrysler LLC and the United Auto Workers appear headed to the wire as talks continued into the night Tuesday on a four-year contract, with the union maintaining its threat to strike as early as 10 a.m. Wednesday.
With neither the union nor Chrysler commenting on the status of negotiations Tuesday, Gary Chaison, a labor expert at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., gives a "50-50 chance" to another UAW strike. The union struck General Motors Corp. for two days last month to prod negotiations. Chaison said its rallying effect on UAW members strengthened their resolve.
