Oct. 10--The federal agency responsible for toy inspections would get an extra $7 million to improve product safety under legislation backed by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who used a stop Tuesday at a suburban toy store to continue his push for more testing of imports.
The extra money would allow the Consumer Product Safety Commission to hire more inspectors and could help fund a new testing lab, Durbin said.
During an appearance at The Toy Connection in Crystal Lake, Durbin also predicted approval by the end of the year of legislation that would increase the commission's budget more than 50 percent to $100 million by 2012 and give the ...
