Torre Has Red Sox Behind Him.

Oct. 10--BOSTON -- It was only briefly, just eight games at the end of the 1998 season, but Joe Torre was Mike Lowell's first major league manager.

On Tuesday, the Red Sox third baseman lamented what appears to be the inevitable firing of Torre as the Yankees manager after 12 seasons. The Yankees failed to advance to the ALCS to face the Red Sox for the third time in five years, and that may have been the final straw.
