Oct. 10--Trees displaying brilliant fall colors
Aspen trees are displaying their brilliant fall colors -- the most vivid reds, browns and yellows -- along the Highway 395 corridor between Walker and June Lakes, on the eastern Sierra. Field scout Bob Simms said aspens on the western slope are about "one week behind" those on the east, so plan an outing along Highway 88 through Carson Pass and catch the colors at their peak.
A fine day trip is to take Highway 88 to the high Sierra and then Highway 89 toward Markleeville, before connecting to Highway 4 along the East Carson River, over Ebbetts Pass, and then back to the Central Valley passing by ...
