'Hordes' clean pound out of pet microchips.

Oct. 10--STOCKTON -- The city did not expect its residents to so enthusiastically abide by the law when the City Council last month required that Stockton pet owners microchip their cats and dogs. But hundreds, "hordes of people," one official said, came for the chips, and by Tuesday -- two days before the rule was to take effect -- the Lincoln Street pound had run out.

"You should have seen the line of people," dispatcher Kathy Potter said. "It was like the day after Christmas. ... I thought we were on strike or something out front."

She and other city staffers said they were pleased with the response.
