Oct. 10--RICHMOND -- State lawmakers must see beyond the Virginia Tech tragedy in trying to fix the mental health system or they could make things worse, a top expert told a legislative panel Monday.
Aradhana Bela Sood served on the independent review panel that Gov. Timothy M. Kaine assembled in the wake of the April 16 mass shooting, the worst in U.S. history. An authority in child and adolescent psychology, she is on the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University.
"I beg you," she told lawmakers, "do not lose this opportunity to do it right."
