Uh-oh: La Nina arrival could mean late-season storms.

Oct. 10--Long expected, La Nina has finally arrived, government forecasters said Tuesday.

The question now is whether the atmospheric condition, known for nurturing tropical systems, will have an effect on the rest of the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season.

It already is making conditions ripe for storm formation in the Caribbean, said Phil Klotzbach, an associate of hurricane prognosticator William Gray at Colorado State University.

"Some of the forecast models are trying to spin up a storm or two in the Caribbean in the next few days," Klotzbach said. "We'll see if this verifies."
