Oct. 10--Developers, cities and other landowners would have an easier time using land set aside for conservation under a proposal from the South Florida Water Management District.
Instead of requiring a public hearing before the district's governing board to obtain permission to change land protections, called conservation easements, the proposal allows an administrator to sign off on it.
While this would be limited to removing the protections on properties of less than 1 acre, most of the changes requested for conservation easements are for such properties, according to the district.
