Street racer guilty of vehicular manslaughter: Jury rules Hesperia man wasn't intoxicated; he could get six years in prison.

Oct. 10--VICTORVILLE -- A Hesperia man was found guilty Tuesday of a manslaughter charge stemming from a street-race accident that killed his passenger.

The jury found Giovanni Esequiel Martinez, 25, guilty of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence but not while intoxicated, lowering his maximum possible sentence to six years in prison.

Celia Salazar, the victim's mother, couldn't speak over her tears but nodded in agreement when asked if she thought justice had been done.
