Parents seek $3M for son's jail death: New Richmond man on medical watch was found in cell.

Oct. 10--The parents of a 28-year-old New Richmond man who died in the St. Croix County Jail six months ago are accusing the county of wrongful death and are seeking $3 million in damages.

Brandon Hessler's parents -- Dan Hessler, of Arden Hills, Minn., and Halleigh Hall, of New Richmond -- have filed a legal claim against the county and several county officials, which is the first step in a civil process.

In the two-page claim, the parents' attorney, Steven Goff, of River Falls, asks for a ruling within 120 days. The St. Croix County clerk and county board chairman received the claim last week.
