Oct. 10--Island House co-owner Jon Allen easily sums why he waited until he was 45 to come out the closet.

"I was scared."

Allen, also a member of the Key West Business Guild, is originally from Climax, Colo., where he says folks were of the mindset that publicly announcing homosexuality warrants a "lobotomy."

Climax, a ghost town once known for having the country's highest post office and railroad station in terms of altitude, is now a mining location.

Key West, Allen says, is a little different.
