Oct. 10--Firms handling construction debris in Islamorada could face new licensing and fees under a plan being considered by the Islamorada Village Council.

A proposal going before the council at its 5:30 p.m. Thursday meeting would require private firms dealing in "construction and demolition debris collection and roll-off containers" to seek special certification.

A nonrefundable application fee would be $2,000 annually, plus extra permitting fees for containers at a job site. Firms also would have to show proof of liability insurance.
