Lumpkin selected for District 4 commissioner.

Oct. 10--In less than five minutes Robert Lumpkin was chosen to represent District 4, fulfilling the vacancy of Mayor Mary Mayfield who resigned last month.

"Several people asked me to submit a letter," Lumpkin said. "And I think if you are asked, you are compelled to serve.

"I don't have any complaints about city government and want to help."

City Commissioners made their selection at a special meeting on Tuesday night. To nominate and vote Lumpkin into the District 4 slot and then adjourn, the meeting took the commissioners less than five minutes.

The vote was unanimous.
