Oct. 10--Lawyer Ron reverted to his headstrong 3-year-old ways a week ago Sunday when he finished second in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park in New York.

Rather than stay off the early pace like he's been trained this year, Lawyer Ron wanted to go to the front of the 11/4-mile race, and jockey John Velazquez, had to restrain him to stay with the game plan. In the process, Lawyer Ron probably used up too much energy fighting his jockey and Curlin won by a neck.
