A police officer in a patrol car trying to respond to the scene of an accident on Western Boulevard can get as stuck in traffic as everyone else.

That is why the Jacksonville Police Department has three brand new Honda ST 1300 motorcycles on the street, said Capt. Tim Akers.

"It is much easier to get through congested traffic," said motorcycle officer James Smallwood.

Feedback on the street about the new sleek black and white motorcycles has been positive, Smallwood said.

"The people I've talked to have said it's about time we have motorcycles," he said.
