Oct. 10--It MUST BE A LOT OF FUN being a candidate for mayor. You can say just about anything, hoping enough people will believe you. Take Joe Eppihimer, the former mayor who wants the job again. His campaign is passing out fliers claiming the city had a $2 million surplus by the end of his term in 2003. Trouble is, it ain't so. The official record -- the Herbein & Co. audit of the city for that year -- shows the city had a $3 million deficit at the end of 2003, not a $2 million surplus. Joe's math is a little off.
Those green fliers also say incumbent Mayor Tom McMahon claims he saved Antietam Lake, when really it was City Council that saved the ...
