Several opposition politicians who serve on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) have distanced themselves from its controversial decision to let Cape Judge President John Hlophe off the hook.
They have complained that they were not forewarned or briefed on decisions about complaints against judges. About 20 complaints are before the commission, but most are from disgruntled litigants and are not regarded as serious.
But one of their colleagues, IFP MP Koos van der Merwe, has cautioned against judging the JSC without having the facts, while senior counsel Ishmael Semenya has appealed to the legal fraternity to respect the JSC as a ...
