NEWS that two of Wisbech's biggest venues are not to renew their drinks licences has been branded a major blow for the social life of the town.
Peter Dennis, secretary of the Wisbech Business and Professional Men's Club, said the College of West Anglia had announced in May that it would no longer be hosting functions with alcohol after being one of the top venues in the town for more than 30 years.
Now Mr Dennis, who is standing down from his post next month, said they had been notified that the Queen Mary Centre, where the club held its Grand Ball at the weekend, is set to do the same.
