A COUNCILLOR has defended his decision to wear colourful civic regalia for an official mayoral photograph, despite accusations that the picture was 'pompous and self indulgent'.
Coun Paul Rounding borrowed a red robe with an ermine collar, a white jabot and gloves, and a hat from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to wear during the civic service held during his term of office as the Mayor of Driffield.
And he used the clothing, along with the chains of office - which are also on loan from the ERYC - as props in his official year-of-office photograph.
But he was the only mayor in the 26-year history of the town council to wear such official ...
