THE days of trodding in chewing gum while enjoying along the streets of Ballymoney may be nearing the end.
Boffins at a university in the Republic are working on a type of gum that washes away with the rain 'within days' if spat out onto the street.
The scientists at University College Cork claim the biodegradable gum can be digested like bread or worn away by the elements if dumped.
Elke Arendt, head of the research team said: "We started the project about six months ago.
