There's a photograph of Jim Bentley, taken in the Carling Cup tie at Deepdale last month, which will acquire added poignancy each passing year for Morecambe's courageous captain.
Former Manchester City youngster Bentley is pictured, standing tall with his finger pointing to the sky, seconds after he had fired Morecambe ahead against Preston North End.
"My dad was the biggest influence on my football career, and in so many other ways too, so every time I score a goal I look towards the sky and dedicate it to him," said Bentley.
"He was a striker who scored at Wembley for Telford United, and he would have loved to have seen that goal at Preston."
