Many people might not have even noticed, but there was something missing in Mohill for the last five years or so.
The familiar peal of the bells at Saint Mary's Church of Ireland at Lower Main Street had fallen silent and the clock on the church tower had stopped, the hands literally frozen in time at ten minutes to two.
The Tower Clock was erected on May 16, 1971 in memory of the Very Rev George Holmes Gibson Bolton M.A., Rector of Mohill Group of Parishes from 1941-1966.
However, time took its toll on the clock and a problem with the mechanics meant the clock stopped working some five years ago.
