PORTADOWN locksmith Philip Troughton has returned from holiday with a rather unusual memento - a rock filled with amethyst stone.
Philip, who owns the West Street key business, was on holiday in Namibia with his family when he came upon the find.
He said, "We were in Damaraland, the middle of the desert, and there were loads of rocks. I saw one which was cracked, and when I lifted the top off it I was surprised to see all this purple stone."
Philip took the rock to a jeweller's further down the coast, who informed him that the stones were, in fact, amethyst.
After that, it was just a matter of getting the unusual rock ...
