Little Tyler Dolan, who was born with no thumbs, is taking time off his writing lessons - and looking forward to a trip abroad.
The seven-year-old was born with 10 fingers - just like his mum - but in a pioneering operation surgeons transformed his life by turning a finger on each hand into a thumb.
Tyler had to learn to hold a pencil with his newly-formed right hand and he's continuing to make good progress after his latest check-up.
His mum Clare, 29, of Oxclose, Washington, said: "He went to see the consultant at the end of July. He's happy with him but he's keeping him on his books because he might need a further operation."
