CLEVELAND - Not surprisingly, manager Terry Francona did not get real worked up when he heard Manny Ramirez had uttered words to the effect that there is always next year.
"I wasn't even there so, I have a pretty good feeling that it's Manny saying, `Hey, we're fine' or whatever," Francona said before last night's game. "The guy that shows up after getting in at five o'clock in the morning to hit, those actions are what I care about. He was here yesterday, hitting and taking grounders and flyballs - that speaks louder volumes than maybe something that, however it came out."
