DURBAN: Key backers of ANC Deputy President Jacob Zuma have rejected the idea of a "compromise" candidate for the ANC presidency, saying their candidate (Zuma) was a "tried and tested" leader to lead the party after the December conference in Limpopo.
Addressing a rally to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the ANC Youth League in Nkandla, Zuma's hometown in northern KwaZulu-Natal, both the youth wing and Cosatu leaders were totally against the idea of a "third way" - a compromise candidate to replace both Zuma and President Thabo Mbeki as candidates for the December ANC congress.
