UK health and beauty retailer Boots is looking to harness the output from its onsite power plant for producing useful chemicals from algae.

Excess heat, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides generated by the CHP plant at the company's headquarters in Nottingham could be used by the algae to make chemicals for applications in a range of cosmetics and toiletries, said sustainable development manager Stephen Johnson.
