AFL-CIO Civil Rights Director Richard G. Womack volunteered to serve as the interim director of the Leadership Conference On Civil Rights in Washington during the coming congressional assault on the nation's affirmative action programs.
He succeeds newly retired Ralph Neas, who for the past 14 years helped develop the conference's wide-ranging agenda which appealed to ethnic, racial and women's groups. The determined White activist succeeded in building the membership to 180 major national organizations and creating the largest civil rights aggregation in the country.
Leadership conference officials could not find a replacement for Neas who will join the ...
