FOR too long, Americans have returned from Europe and Asia wondering "Why don't we have trains like theirs? Why are our trains designed so conservatively--why are they so boring?"
This question, a mere tourist's observation in the recent past, has now become an issue that is affecting how railway operators are specifying and procuring their equipment. Simply put, North America is more than ready for new and innovative rolling stock.
