A NEWTONHILL woman has saved the life of a leukaemia sufferer and raised money for charity, having been inspired by a Stonehaven boy's tragic battle with the illness.
Carol Hay joined the Anthony Nolan Trust bone marrow register after reading about former Mackie Academy pupil Kevin Humphreys, who lost his fight for life on Christmas Day 2001.
In June this year Carol was matched with an adult female who had leukaemia and travelled to London for the necessary treatment.
Two months later, she received a letter explaining the woman who received her bone marrow was doing well and had left hospital.
