Article: House Rules Committee allows fight on B-2, not submarines.(B-2 bomber, Seawolf submarine and Navy's New Attack Submarine funding under FY '96 Defense Authorization bill)

The House Rules Committee, paring down a list of proposed amendments to the FY '96 Defense Authorization bill Thursday night, decided to allow lawmakers to try to remove B-2 Stealth bomber funding from the measure, but turned away amendments that would restore funding for the third Seawolf and stop the Navy's New Attack Submarine (NAS) program.

When the authorization bill (H.R. 1530) comes up for debate on the floor this week, House Budget Committee Chairman John Kasich (R- Ohio) will try to strike sections of it that lift B-2 cost and quantity caps and remove $553 million to buy two more bombers (Defense Daily, June 9).
