One longtime observer and occasional participant in the telecommunications regulatory wars recently remarked that the United States was able to defeat Adolf Hitler and the Japanese Empire in less time than it has taken the government to permit telephone companies to bring effective competition to the cable monopoly.

Given the egregiousness of the cable monopoly's exploitation of consumers, one might hope that the government would get out of the way and let the competitive games begin.
