Regular physical activity can reduce risk for the development of chronic diseases among adults, (1) including cardiovascular disease, (2) cancer, (3) and diabetes. (4) Because participation in physical activity as a young person influences participation in physical activity as an adult, it can contribute to decreased risk for the development of such chronic diseases. (5) Regular participation in physical activity as a young person contributes to healthy bone and muscle development, reduces feelings of depression and anxiety, and promotes psychological well-being.
