An aluminum-alloy modular bar-armor system that provides protection against rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) without compromising the operational capabilities of the vehicle has been installed on a U.S. Army RG31 vehicle, reports BAE Systems, Alexandria, Va. At less than half the weight of comparable steel designs, LROD bolts onto the vehicle without welding or cutting, and can be repaired in the field. It provides protection against rocket-propelled grenades and can be easily adapted to other armored vehicles.
