Melitta North America Inc. opens its first store today, at the Greentree Square Shopping Center on Route 73 in Marlton, N.J., near Philadelphia.
"If we want to remain the leading specialty coffee nationwide, we have to go into this distribution channel," said H. Helmut Radtke, Melitta's president and CEO.
Melitta plans to open as many as 75 Coffee World stores in the next several years, with 10 by next May, including one on South Street in Philadelphia in August. The stores will sell brewed coffee as well as beans and equipment.
