SACRAMENTO -- Cognitive-behavioral therapy is playing an increasingly important role in schizophrenia treatment, Dr. Jesse H. Wright said at a meeting on psychotic disorders sponsored by the University of California, Davis.
"The medications we currently have are not fully effective, and there are studies that show positive effects of CBT," said Dr. Wright, who described the evidence behind CBT and how it is done. "CBT is not geared to eliminate this disorder or to cure it, and is not seen as a competing philosophy with biological psychiatry. Instead, it helps people to deal with the problem," he added.
