WASHINGTON, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Local Number Portability Trial Task Force selected a team of leading telecommunications companies led by MCImetro to provide the platform for the first-ever local number portability trial in Manhattan sanctioned by a state Public Service Commission. Local number portability, which enables consumers to keep their telephone number when switching to a new local telephone company, is an important step to true local telephone competition.
