Budget-minded notebook PC buyers envious of the long battery lives of DEC's HiNote Ultra, Dell's Latitude XP, and Toshiba's Portg will have to wait six more months to get their hands on a machine that uses premium lithium-ion battery technology.
Battery-makers such as Atasi Chemical, Sony, and a few newcomers are still ramping up production. Bill Ablondi, market analyst with BIS Strategic Decisions, says, "We expect by next year to see lithium ion used commonly in products priced in the $2,000 to $2,500 range."
