There is no legal requirement in California for on employer to provide its employees with either paid or unpaid vacation time. However, most employers do provide some kind of vacation benefit either to ensure its employees get needed relaxation and work rejuvenation or to remain competitive for retention of their employees.
If an employer has a vocation policy they must understand paid vocation is considered a form of wages under California low and certain restrictions are placed on the employer as to how it fulfills its obligation to provide vacation pay.
