NEW YORK _ The newly extended tail of the 86-foot-long ``Apatosaurus,'' once known as ``Brontosaurus,'' seems almost to hit visitors in the face as they enter.
``Stegosaurus,'' with trademark plates and spiked tail, is accompanied by a baby ``Stegosaurus'' _ a cast of the only such fossil ever recovered.
``Tyrannosaurus rex'' is here, stalking a vanished prey, its tiny hands still such a grotesque contrast to its fierce, mammoth jaw. So, too, are ``Archaeopterix,'' the reptilian bird, and a row of horned ``Protoceratops'' skulls, showing off both its growth and the depth of this collection.
