Yes: After a brilliant career that included five Grand Slam titles, the 27-year-old had nothing left to prove and didn't need to sully her legacy with potential future positive drug-test results.
No: Hingis should have played at least one more season to prove that last season's cocaine-positive test at Wimbledon was a fluke. Her career has been too exemplary for her retirement to be remembered under such dubious circumstances.
