A troubleshooting interim boss has been appointed at the trust running Hemel Hempstead Hospital.
Jan Filochowski, a 'hospital turnaround specialist', will head West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust for an initial period of six months.
The move follows the recent, sudden departure of former chief executive David Law, who left after a second year of poor results for the trust.
Mr Filochowski, who has a background in transforming failing organisations, said he was looking forward to the role.
