Shakespeare studies have proved to be richly exemplary of new historicist methodologies in the past decade or so, in part in response to demands for more precise treatments of context, in part as a reflection of the material nature of theatrical production. Donna S. Hamilton's second book on aspects of Shakespeare's historicity contributes importantly to these studies. Her inquiry is chiefly into the political dimension of certain plays as it is constituted by contemporary debates on church-state relations.
