Lokal Musik is the first major study of Tok Pisin song in Papua New Guinea. It is an original and thoroughly documented volume whose detailed historical analyses principally revolve around song texts, along with ample musical transcriptions. Although written as a Master's thesis in Music at Wesleyan University (Connecticut, USA) in 1990, the work is far more mature, no doubt a reflection of the author's decade of work in PNG and his deep familiarity with the range of contemporary musical and linguistic issues there.
