There are not enough workers entering--and remaining in--the direct-care workforce to meet the increasing demand from long-term care consumers, and one of the reasons is the absence of health coverage for the employees.
That was the message at an Oct. 17 forum in Concord, sponsored jointly by the Alzheimer's Association and the PHI Health Care for Health Care Workers initiative.
Six panelists representing various sectors of the long-term care industry discussed the issue, which is a concern now, but has the potential to be even more troubling in the future.
