EPoetin alfa is typically administered by the intravenous (IV) route for patients on hemodialysis and by the subcutaneous (SC) route for patients on peritoneal dialysis. Using the IV route for patients on hemodialysis avoids the need for additional needle sticks, enhances patient comfort, and provides a staff-convenient thrice-weekly dosing schedule.
