The day after Alexandra "Alex" Scott's 4th birthday, inspiration planted a lemon seed in her. That day, she was in the hospital receiving treatment for her cancer. She told her mother, "When I get out of the hospital, I want to have a lemonade stand." Her goal was to raise money for the doctors at "her hospital."

She wanted to help find a cure, not only for her cancer but for all pediatric (childhood) cancers. Later that same year, Alex opened her first lemonade stand in her front yard.
