Mayor, Black City Council Members at Odds; Citizen Groups Seek Changes

Members of Pine Bluff's business community say a complete lack of communication among city leaders has led to the recent airing of dirty laundry over disagreements between white and black city leaders.

The division within the city's leadership came to the forefront when four black aldermen walked out of a City Council meeting the night of April 17 in protest of Mayor Jerry Taylor's use of a new state law allowing him - rather than the Civil Service Commission - to appoint a new police chief.
